Anti-SPAM filter / Anti-UBE (unsolicited bulk email) / Anti-Virus Filter
Brandywine IT Services own anti spam servers stop almost all spam from entering your network. Unsolicited email messages not only slow down productivity on the server, they also waste your employees time by forcing them to sort messages in order to find relevant emails. Our Servers can be used as standalone email servers or as a relay server.
Features of the Anti-SPAM Server:
- Our Anti-Spam software platform is ASSP (Anti-Spam Server Proxy). The filter uses a wide range of heuristic tests to identify "unsolicited commercial email” (or UCE). Another great advantage of ASSP is that it is "Open Source" and FREE. So there is no added cost in your efforts to eliminate Spam.
- Header analysis: spammers will attempt to hide their true identify, by fooling you into thinking they've sent a valid email, or by making you think you must have subscribed to their mailing list at some stage. The filter will spot these patterns and block those emails which are illegitimate.
- Text analysis: Spam emails often have a characteristic style, and often include text like disclaimers. T he Spam filter can spot these methods as well.
- Network tests: The Spam filter supports Public RBL's (Real-time Black hole List) and Bulk email checks to spot a known spamming server, and block its access to your email server entirely. This helps to crack down on spammers and deny them from spreading their Spam.
- File Analysis: The server receives all email and puts it through several antivirus scanners to ensure that email passing through is virus free.
- Once the email has passed successfully through this gauntlet of test it is forwarded to your mailbox, or relayed to your Exchange server.
- Automatic Virus definitions updates: All of our virus scanners are updated no less than every 6 times a day. Our antivirus software of choice is ClamAV, which is open source and free. Updates are downloaded several times daily and, due to the nature of open source, are free with no monthly recurring costs.
Our Anti-Spam/Anti Virus solutions use multiple techniques to stop Spam at its entry point, before it has a chance to reach your network or mailbox.

- The server receives the connection from the sending server and the anti-Spam filter checks to see if the sending server is white-listed.
- The filter then decides whether or not to process the e-mail or delay receipt for several minutes. This is known as grey-listing and is done because Spammers generally do not attempt to resend Spam emails.
- When/If the email message is received by the Anti-SPAM engine; The engine uses it’s heuristics to scan the content of the message. It will also perform an RBL (Real-time Black hole List) scan as well as a Bulk email check. A “Spam-rating” number will be assigned to the email.
- The Server receives the email and first passes it through the email attachment filter to scan for undesirable executable attachments.
- The email then passes through several antivirus scanners to ensure that the email and its attachments passing through do not contain a virus.
- The Spam rating number is determined by internal rule-sets which calculate the likelihood that a piece of email is legitimate or Spam.
- The server will determine whether to delete the spam or let it pass though. If the email is determined to be SPAM or contains a virus then a message will be returned to the sender notifying them of this status so that they will know their message has been rejected.
- Accepted email will then be delivered to the recipients mailbox. Any email which is blocked can be reported at any time, automatically by the individual user. No more Spam, ever again.
